Summer Job
Egg tempera on gesso panel, 18 x 24

During my high school and college years, I had a great summer job working for my neighbor who grew exotic house plants. I started out working for her and her husband in their basement where they grew African violets and a wide variety of rex begonias. When they bought 20 acres in a nearby farming town and erected multiple greenhouses, I moved with them. I spent countless hours in the amazing quiet--watering, planting, and packing plants for their NYC customers. To recreate my memories of those happy times, I used photos I took back in the 70s and my favorite model, Katie, posed for the female figure.
