This is one of my most joyous works to date and it was a joy to create. I have always wanted to see whales up close but was never able to go on a whale watching trip. Lo and behold, during the spring and summer of 2020, during the most stringent social distancing, the whales came to me. For the past few years they have been regular visitors to the Jersey coast. I especially thank the accomplished wildlife photographer and conservationist, Don Riepe, for providing some photographs of breaching whales - they just didn't cooperate on my trip.
